What are Wire Ferrules and why should you use them?

What does a Ferrule do?

Types of Ferrules

1. The plastic or metal piece, other known as the aglet, is the piece that is on the end of a shoelace, preventing it from unraveling

3. The rubber or plastic cap at the end of a walking stick or crutch
   
   
4. The metal ring that is crimped to hold the eraser in place on a pencil
